Why did this lioness kill the father of her cubs?
Does this happen in the wild? A 12-year-old lioness attacked and killed a lion that had lived together for eight years and made cubs with. The male lion was two years younger and 11kgs lighter than her, but he still weighed over 150kgs. How could that sort of domestic violence happen in a captive situation where there is enough food for all the residents?
Though researchers know that lions sometimes attack cubs or other male lions to ensure their lionesses aren’t mated by others, they are unsure about the cause or motive of such deliberate murder by a lioness in a captive situation or in the wild.
Did she kill him to protect her cubs or another lion that she was developing a new relationship with?
Did she kill him because he had threatened her cubs or another lion that she had been developing a new relationship with? Or, had she disliked him so long that she was no longer bear with him?
